Probiotic yogurt is one of the first probiotic foods that gained mainstream attention in America. But in places such as India, the Balkans and northern Europe yogurt with probiotic bacteria has been used for well over a thousand years!
These “good bacteria” yogurt have been linked to an amazing number of health benefits. Specifically, a few of the benefits are:
- improved digestion
- fewer colds/flu’s
- shorter colds/flu’s
- lowering blood pressure
- enhancing immunity
- improving digestion of milk
- reducing/curing diarrhea
But we must make sure we are not eating yogurt that was pasteurized after it was cultured. Since pasteurization kills bacteria (by flash boiling), eating dead probiotics don’t gives us any of the above benefits! If you can get yogurt made with raw mild from grass fed cows, then the yoghurt will be even better for you!

I need to find a probiotic yoghurt with reduced sugar as I am diabetic, any ideas?
Yes Jill!
If you eat a plain, non-flavored yogurt you can easily get it as low as 5 grams of sugar per serving. Keep in mind that the fat & protein in the yogurt will slow the rise in blood sugar, so it should probably be okay.
However! If you eat a flavored yogurt, it will likely be 20 grams per serving! That’s 4 sugar cubes vs. 1 sugar cube.
Please let me know if you have any more questions, I’m here to help
take care,
